The AI agent
What is the PromptBite agent and how does it work?

PromptBite’s agent is an AI cook. Tell it what you want and it returns recipes that respect your preferences, your allergies, and what’s already in your pantry. You can ask in three ways — type a request, snap a photo of your ingredients, or tap “Decide for me.” The same agent then builds your shopping basket and adjusts it when you ask.

What are the three ways to ask for a recipe?
  • Type a request — e.g. “Quick pasta dinner for 2, I have basil and garlic.” The agent returns three recipe cards to choose from.
  • Snap a photo (Scan) — photograph your ingredients and the agent finds recipes from what it sees.
  • Decide for me — one tap, one recipe, no typing.
How does Scan (Cook Vision) work?

Cook Vision is the camera mode that finds recipes from a photo of your ingredients — the tab that opens it is labelled Scan. Lay your ingredients out, take a photo, and PromptBite lists what it detects with a confidence score on each item. You can add or remove anything before continuing, so a missed or misread item is easy to fix.

PromptBite then suggests recipes — typically one using only what you have, one that adds two or three ingredients, and community matches. If photo recognition is temporarily unavailable, PromptBite will tell you and let you type your ingredients instead.

How does PromptBite handle my allergies?

Your allergies are a hard constraint. The agent is instructed never to include them, and every AI-generated recipe is checked a second time against an allergen list before it reaches you — if anything slips through, the recipe is rejected and regenerated.

That said, PromptBite is an AI assistant and can make mistakes. Always read the ingredients yourself if you have an allergy. PromptBite is not designed or marketed as medically safe for severe allergies.

Why did the agent suggest something I don’t like?

Allergies and diet tags are hard rules the agent won’t break. Dislikes are softer — the agent avoids them, but may include one if you specifically ask for a recipe built around it. You can update your allergies, diet tags, and dislikes any time in Profile → Preferences, and changes apply to the next recipes the agent suggests.

What does “Decide for me” use to pick a recipe?

“Decide for me” returns a single recipe with no typing. It looks at your saved preferences, the time of day, what’s in your pantry, and what you’ve cooked recently — so it won’t serve you the same protein two meals in a row.

Basket & delivery
Why can’t I see prices in the basket?

PromptBite’s agent builds your cart, but it can’t see prices — that’s a limitation of the Amazon hand-off PromptBite is built on. You still see every price and your full total at Amazon checkout, before you pay anything. So the cost is never hidden from you; it just appears on the Amazon screen at the end rather than inside PromptBite.

How does the basket work — what does the agent do?

When you add a recipe to your basket, the agent does the shopping work for you. It combines ingredients across recipes, skips anything already in your pantry, converts recipe amounts into real package sizes (e.g. “2 tbsp tomato paste” → “1 6-oz can”), and picks products on the store you’ve chosen. A note in the basket shows how many pantry items it skipped and roughly what that saved you. You review the cart, ask for any changes, then tap “Place order.”

Which stores can I order from?

PromptBite orders through Amazon, so you can shop Amazon, Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods — wherever same-day grocery delivers to your address. Tap the retailer card at the top of the basket to choose your Amazon fulfillment option. Same-day and perishable availability depends on your location. (Kroger is coming soon.)

Why do I need to connect Amazon, and how?

PromptBite places orders through Amazon, so the basket hands your cart off to Amazon to build and check out. Connect your Amazon account in Profile → Connected accounts for the smoothest hand-off. Until it’s connected, the basket can show the recipes you’ve added but can’t load your cart on Amazon for checkout.

Does PromptBite place my grocery order for me?

Almost. The agent builds and refines the entire cart, then hands off to Amazon with everything already loaded. You confirm your delivery window, substitution preferences, and payment, and tap “Place order” in Amazon. That final confirmation is required — no grocery service lets an app pay on your behalf without it. PromptBite’s job is to make everything before that tap effortless.

How do I change something in my cart?

Use the prompt bar at the bottom of the basket and just say what you want — “make the cream organic,” “swap the linguine for gluten-free pasta,” “remove the cilantro,” “add ice cream for dessert.” The agent updates the cart and shows you the result. You can also tap “Swap” on any individual product row.

Cooking
How does guided cooking work?

Tap “Start guided cooking” on any recipe to move through it one step at a time. The current step is shown large, finished steps fade above it, and upcoming steps sit compressed below — so you always know where you are. Measurements in each step are bolded to catch your eye while you work.

How do the cooking timers work?

Any step with a duration — “Simmer for 20 minutes” — has a tappable timer chip. Tap it to start a countdown. The timer keeps running if you leave the app or lock your phone, and sends you a notification when time’s up.

Can PromptBite read the steps aloud?

Yes. Turn on Audio mode in guided cooking and PromptBite reads the current step out loud — useful when your hands are busy or messy. A soft green glow around the screen shows audio mode is on.

Can I ask a question while I’m cooking?

Yes. There’s a prompt bar at the bottom of the guided cooking screen — ask the agent things like “what’s a substitute for vodka?” or “convert this to Celsius” without leaving your recipe.

Can I change the number of servings?

Yes. Use the +/− servings control on the recipe page and every ingredient quantity updates with it, including fractions and counts. PromptBite scales amounts linearly for now, so use your own judgement on strong spices.

Can I save a recipe, or rate and edit it?

You can save any recipe to return to it later — tap the save icon, and tap again to unsave. Rating recipes and saving your own edited versions aren’t in this version of PromptBite yet; they’re planned for a future update.

Account & billing
How do I sign in — is there a password?

PromptBite uses Sign in with Apple. There’s no separate email signup or password — your Apple ID is your PromptBite account, which also keeps your data private between you and Apple.

What’s free, and what needs Premium?

Browsing curated recipes and handing a basket off to Amazon are unlimited and free. The free tier also includes, each month: 3 AI recipe generations, 1 photo-to-recipe, 10 saved recipes, and 25 pantry items. Premium removes all of those limits — unlimited AI generation, photo recipes, saves, and pantry items.

How much is Premium, and is there a trial?

Premium is $9.99/month or $79.99/year — the annual plan saves about 33%. Every new account starts with a 7-day free trial of Premium, so you can try unlimited generation before deciding.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Manage or cancel Premium in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions — the same place all your App Store subscriptions live. PromptBite’s Subscription screen links you straight there. If you cancel, you keep Premium until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.

How is my savings number calculated?

Every PromptBite recipe has an estimated grocery cost. PromptBite multiplies that by to estimate the delivery-app equivalent — based on published research on restaurant and delivery-fee markup — and the difference is your savings. It’s an estimate; your real cost depends on your pantry and which store you choose. There’s a full breakdown in Profile → About → How savings are calculated.

How do I change my allergies, diet, or dislikes?

Open Profile → Preferences. You can edit your allergies, diet tags, and dislikes at any time — updates apply to the next recipes the agent suggests. Your allergies feed directly into the agent’s safety checks, so it’s worth keeping them current.

How do I turn notifications on or off?

Go to Profile → Notifications. Timer alerts while cooking are on by default; cook reminders and product updates are off by default. If notifications are blocked for PromptBite at the iOS level, that screen shows you how to re-enable them in iOS Settings.
